About Us
Pickabook Limited is a company based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1998 by Michael Ratcliffe and Geoffrey Newsome, both of whom continue to run it.
Back in 1998 the aim was simple: to create a huge, searchable selection of books online so that people could find and buy whatever books they wanted, including all the wonderful books which could not be bought on the high street. It was also very important to us that our books should be cheap.
Our first bookselling website was launched in June, 1999. It was a basic website, but we liked it. We liked it so much that we became its best customers. In fact, for a time, we were its only customers! Then other people began to shop with us.
In the intervening years, our business has grown and changed. But we never forget those early days, and we never take our customers for granted. We know that our future is our customers, so we listen to our customers very carefully.
Today, we offer ten times as many books for sale as we did in 1999, and we offer much lower prices. We also offer unusual books and book-related items such as bath books, rag books, sticker books and leather-bound books. You can see a selection of some of these by clicking on the 'Special Items' tab at the top of the page. We also have a growing schools supply business, which is a great pleasure to us.
In all, we now offer:
- Over 5 million new books from stock (all our books are new);
- Discounts of up to 80%;
- Fast dispatch;
- Excellent customer care.
As you may have guessed, we love what we do, and we love our interaction with our customers. The challenges and opportunities for our business may have changed since 1998, but our belief and our passion are the same: that books are the best value that money can buy, and that our love of good books, great service and a great price is one that we share with our customers.
